MEMORANDUM
SUBJECT: Recognition of Veterans
FROM: Richard E. Greene /s/ Richard Greene
Regional Administrator (6RA)
TO: All Region 6 EPA/SEE Employees
Last week was National Veteran's Awareness
Week, a time to pause and honor those who
have worn the uniform in service to our
country. Many joined the celebrations and
parades around the area, while others had
a private moment of remembrance for those
who served or are currently serving this
nation. It was an important time for me
personally as my father is a proud World
War II veteran.
At this time, I wanted to give you an update
on what we are doing in Region 6 to recognize
our veterans. Our intranet site contains
veterans information, and includes links
to several useful sites. In addition, this
summer, the Labor/Management Committee discussed
the idea of creating a group in Region 6
to highlight and provide representation
on issues relevant to veterans and disabled
veterans, such as accommodations, hiring,
and advancement. The group would also organize
periodic recognition and education events
on veterans issues. The Committee enthusiastically
embraced this idea, and work is underway
to form such a group. The group will be
open to veterans as well as anyone interested
in veterans' affairs. If you would like
to participate, please contact Merrit Nicewander
at 5-7519. Larry and I are very pleased
to support this effort. We are dedicated
to fully utilizing the valuable skills and
talents of our veterans here in Region 6.
The courage and patriotism of all men and
women who are serving, or have served, in
the armed services is to be commended. We
are especially sensitive to this today,
when so many Americans are on active duty,
protecting our country and our way of life.
We owe them our support and our thanks.
